Songwriting/Performance Workshop

Maggie’s Wake Songwriting/Performance Workshop will be held on Saturday, July 18, between 10 am and 12 noon at Essex Theatre, Essex Masonic Lodge. Lunch included. Led by Tara Dunphy, Lindsay Shindler with Andrew Kosty and Kenneth Palmer, Maggie’s Wake invites you into a creative workshop that bridges tradition and innovation. Rooted in the rich history of traditional music, this session explores how familiar melodies and songs can be reimagined through modern arrangements, fresh harmonies, and contemporary rhythmic ideas. Participants will learn how to honor the essence of traditional tunes while shaping them into something new, dynamic, and uniquely their own. Maggie’s Wake will also share how traditional melodies have inspired their own original writing and repertoire, offering insight into their own creative process. Whether you’re a seasoned player or simply curious, the workshop provides inspiration, practical tools, and a fresh perspective on the evolving sound of traditional music.
