Essex Blogging Workshop
June 11, 2014 @ 7:00 pm
Do you want to contribute to the Essex on Lake Champlain Blog (essexonlakechamplain.com)? Or the Essex Events Calendar (www.essexny.us/events)? George Davis and Katie Shepard will conduct a free (and fun) workshop at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11 at the Essex Town Hall for new bloggers (as well as anyone who wants a refresher.)
While it is not necessary to bring a laptop (or tablet, etc.) it will enable you to follow along and receive coaching on your first post.
We request that you complete a quick and simple “homework” assignment prior to your workshop in order to actively participate.
1. Write a short biography (author byline) that will tell blog readers about yourself, your connection to Essex, your business or organization, etc. Include the URLs for your website, social media accounts and/or any other content that you wish to include in your byline (appears at the end of all posts that you contribute).
2. Choose a bio image that you would like to show up next to your author byline. This can be any photo of yourself, your logo or another image that you would like to represent you. Please bring scale image to 200×200 pixels. We can help if you need assistance.
3. Prepare a rough draft for your first post on the Essex Blog. Do you want to tell the community about an event? Praise the work of a local business? Share a story about a wildlife sighting or a great meal? Or maybe you’d like to recount an anecdote from Essex’s history? Choose what inspires you. Your rough draft should be a minimum of 300 words. If you need inspiration, search the blog to see what content others have contributed.
4. Bring 1-2 photos to include in your post. All Essex Blog posts must have at least one image. If possible, please have one image sized 740×400 pixels to use as your post’s “featured image” (we’ll explain this!). We will teach you how to re-size photos if you do not have this ability.
This prep work is not critical, but it will accelerate your learning curve and you’ll depart the workshop with your first post ready to publish. Bring on a USB if you don’t bring your laptop etc.
