ATBI BioBlitz in Westport, Essex, and Willsboro

June 13, 2015 @ 8:30 am - 5:30 pm

Area naturalists and their friends are converging in Willsboro and Essex on June 13th for the 2015 BioBlitz. A BioBlitz is a rapid inventory of organisms—common or rare, large or small, in a defined area. The Adirondack All-Taxa Biodiversity Inventory (ATBI), a collaborative group of professional and citizen-scientists from across the region, has hosted BioBlitzes in the Adirondacks for 8 years to survey the natural world. We want area residents to be aware of the presence of naturalists in the region in light of the recent prisoner escape searches.

Many people will be walking on trails and in the woods at public lands in the area. These areas include Noblewood Park, Coon Mountain Preserve, and Split Rock Forest.

Community members are welcome to join the 2014 BioBlitz on Saturday, June 13th. Because this BioBlitz is on a combination of public and private lands, we ask that people interested in participating contact Ezra Schwartzberg at to learn about where to meet.

This event will feature a talk by Wildlife Conservation Society biologist Michale Glennon on the importance of conservation efforts in the Champlain Valley.
